Description
“MAKING GARDENS : A Romp Through History... An Examination of the Contemporary and a Peek at the Future of Garden Design”

An Illustrated Talk by DIARMUID GAVIN - Garden Designer

DIARMUID GAVIN is a garden designer who works in a contemporary style throughout the world. Educated at Dublin’s Botanic Gardens, he holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Nottingham.

With a reputation as the creator of innovative gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show, Diarmuid lectures all over the world including, recently, Toronto and Moscow where he acted for a consultant for the City Council.

The author of eleven books, he writes a weekly column for the Saturday Mirror newspaper.

As ambassador for the Prince of Wales Foundation for the Built Environment, he represents the views of the Foundation to communities throughout the UK.

Ongoing garden projects include the installation of a roof garden in Harrods, London, in October 2014, alongside developing a new design for Regency Square, Brighton, in advance of the i360 (designed by the London Eye architectural team) being opened.

He has collaborated with Sir Terence Conran on both writing and design projects and works regularly with acclaimed Czech Architect Eva Jiricna.

Television credits include BBC 2’s ‘Home Front’, ‘Art of the Garden’, ‘Planet Patio’ and coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show.

He has recently recorded an ITV documentary on how his garden design programmes influenced gardeners throughout the UK with Alan Titchmarsh and a similar programme for BBC 2 along with making two documentaries for 2015 ‘Great Garden Revival’ series.

Non-gardening television ranges from presenting an episode of ‘Top of the Pops’, through to displaying his individual dance floor style on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

In 2015, he is launching a range of garden and gift products throughout Europe.

Diarmuid lives in County Wicklow with his wife Justine and daughter Eppie.
