BRICS+ Fashion Summit: A Global Confluence of Creativity

From November 28th to December 2nd, Moscow played host to the esteemed BRICS+ Fashion Summit. The event took place at Zaryadye and drew over 200 speakers from 60 different countries. This global assembly of the fashion industry was marked by a myriad of activities and enriching programs, solidifying its place as a pivotal event in the global fashion calendar.

The BRICS+ Fashion Summit stands as a distinctive platform that brings together member countries of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) along with other nations (BRICS+) to discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities in the global fashion industry. This gathering serves as a pivotal point where key industry players, emerging creators, fashion professionals, buyers, and educators converge to exchange ideas, share visions, and explore new avenues in this domain. It often comprises diverse programs such as conferences, fashion shows, design exhibitions, educational sessions, and discussions on topics ranging from sustainability and technology to creativity and commerce within the fashion industry.

Moscow recently hosted the esteemed BRICS+ Fashion Summit from November 28th to December 2nd, drawing experts from over 60 countries worldwide, representing a spectrum of regions like Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, South-Eastern Asia, and the CIS. The event encompassed a multitude of activities, commencing with the Business Program featuring 40 sessions and 200+ global speakers who delved into crucial industry themes like global collaboration and fashion technology. Eminent figures like Yang Jian, Alia Khan, Paras Bairoliya, and Mubashar Naseer Butt led these discussions.

Following this, the Fashion Shows showcased designers from 11 nations, proudly presenting their cultural heritage. Central to the affair was a sprawling 5-day showroom at the esteemed Parking Gallery in Zaryadye, exhibiting 130+ brands from various countries and attracting discerning buyers globally. Additionally, the summit featured award-winning films by international filmmakers and an exhibition of sustainable installations, symbolizing the industry's dedication to conscientious practices. Integrated into the event was a comprehensive 27-hour Fashion Intensive course led by distinguished lecturers from global institutions, empowering attendees with evolving industry skills, guided by renowned academics like Gregg Maragelis, Gulbash Duggal, Priyanka Sarkar, Bediz Yıldırım, Oluwatosin Adelaja, Tutu Jiang, Olivia Merquior, among others.

Heads of fashion associations, founders of fashion weeks, content creators, lecturers, and designers all shared their expertise with an international audience eager to partake in this extraordinary event that simply couldn't be missed.

SADAELS (Argentina): Juan Hernandez Daels, an Argentine-Belgian designer, presented a collection celebrating the feminine silhouette, revisiting trends from the 2000s with figure-hugging dresses, macramé tops, and cut-out pants.

Arzu Kaprol (Turkey): A pioneer in clothing technology, Arzu Kaprol offered a collection with architectural shapes, highlighting leather, velvet, and tinsel in semi-transparent designs.

陳宇CHNNYU (China): The Chinese brand emphasized classic silhouettes adorned with trending colors, prints, and textures, combining raw materials and oversized patterns with feminine dresses featuring romantic prints.

Kunjina (Ethiopia): Kunjina Tesfaye shared a vision of a modern women's wardrobe, favoring feminine silhouettes with industrial-style suits, asymmetrical cuts, and pastel shades.

FDCI presents: riteshkumar; KHANIJO; Naushad Ali; Shruti Sancheti (India): Several Indian designers offered a glimpse into contemporary Indian fashion with diverse collections, blending casual cuts, natural materials, and soothing tones.

AL•DRI•E (Indonesia): Aldrie Indrayana advocated responsible consumption through eco-friendly fashion with grunge looks in dark tones, unique hairstyles, and accessories.

The Business Program was first, a standout part of the summit, hosting 40 sessions with over 200 speakers from around the world. These experts discussed crucial topics in our industry, like working together globally, supporting new businesses, and using technology in fashion. Esteemed figures, including Yang Jian from China Fashion Association, Alia Khan of the Islamic Fashion and Design Council, Paras Bairoliya from the Fashion Design Council of India, and Mubashar Naseer Butt from Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association, were among those leading these discussions.

And then, the Fashion Shows.

Additionnaly, the Summit housed a sprawling 5-day showroom at the esteemed Parking Gallery in Zaryadye. Here, over 130 brands and designers, representing countries as varied as Argentina, Russia, India, Nigeria, Egypt, Turkey, and South Africa, beckoned over 200 discerning buyers from China, India, Russia, and beyond. Filmmakers from distant corners of the globe also showcased award-winning fashion films, transcending borders and cultural divides. An exhibition of sustainable installations underscored the growing commitment of the fashion world to conscientious practices.

Within this fashion rendezvous, a 27-hour Fashion Intensive course stood as an integral component. Led by esteemed lecturers from renowned universities and international fashion institutions, this course aimed to equip attendees with the requisite knowledge and skills to flourish in the ever-evolving fashion industry. Participants had an incredible opportunity to learn from 37 esteemed academics and industry luminaries, including Gregg Maragelis, Head of Cape Town College of Fashion Design in South Africa; Gulbash Duggal, Dean of the International College of Fashion in India; Priyanka Sarkar, senior management expert in the fashion retail industry, lecturer at EMDI, FAD, Middlesex University, UAE; Bediz Yıldırım, Founder of Bediz Co., Lecturer at Istanbul Fashion Academy; Oluwatosin Adelaja, Fashion Brand Development Consultant and Research Fellow at CIAFE, Nigeria; Tutu Jiang, Associate professor at School of Fashion Design of CAA in China; Olivia Merquior, Co-Founder of Brazil Immersive Fashion Week, Brazil, among many other distinguished figures.
